Workshop on Quantum Matter: Saturday 16th August

Quantum matter spans the helium liquids, in bulk and lower dimensions, strongly correlated electrons systems and unconventional superconductivity and superfluidity. Quantum criticality refers to continuous phase transitions driven by a control parameter at T = 0.
What can be learned from studying these systems at lower temperatures than hitherto, and what are the technical challenges? What are the possibilities of quantum computing using topologically protected states: FQHE, superconductors(Sr2Ru04 vs 3He). Can the study of quantum criticality in simple model systems provide insights into more complex single crystal intermetallics?
The workshop on Quantum Matter will be in collaboration with the "32nd International Workshop on Condensed Matter Theories" (Chairman F Kusmartsev). Transport from Loughborough to Royal Holloway will be arranged for August 16th.
