Workshop: Supersolids

Workshop on Supersolid ⁴He: Friday 15th

This workshop will focus on most recent work on supersolid ⁴He, experimental and theoretical.

 

The workshop with be preceeded by two morning plenary talks reviewing the experimental status by Moses Chan (Penn State) and Seamus Davis (Cornell).

 

The afternoon workshop will start with a series of theoretical talks. Speakers include A Andreev (Moscow), A Balatsky (U of California), L Pollet (ETH Zurich) J Toner (U of Oregon).

 

The session will continue with a discussion in which wide participation is encouraged. Discussion topics are likely to include:

 

• The relationship between elastic stiffening and NCRI
• The role of dislocations in supersolidity
• Flow, vortices and evidence for macroscopic quantum coherence
• Thermodynamic measurements
• Neutron scattering studies
• Behaviour in porous media
• Other “supersolid” candidates.

 

Participants are requested to submit posters on new results to which reference can be made in discussions.
